(CNN) -- A lone gunman is dead after police said he killed at least 21 people Monday during twin shootings on the Virginia Tech campus -- the worst school shooting incident in U.S. history.
"Some victims were shot in a classroom," university police Chief Wendell Flinchum said during a news conference in Blacksburg.
Police believe there was only one gunman, Flinchum said.
"Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions," said university President Charles Steger. "The university is shocked and indeed horrified."
The shootings mark the deadliest school shooting incident in U.S. history, topping attacks at Columbine High School in 1999 and at the University of Texas in 1966.
The Associated Press quoted officials saying more than 20 people were wounded. A hospital spokeswoman told AP that 17 Virginia Tech students were being treated for gunshot wounds and other injuries.
Sharon Honaker at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in nearby Christiansburg, Virginia, told CNN that four patients had been transported there, one in critical condition.
One person was killed and others were wounded at multiple locations inside a dormitory about 7:15 a.m., Flinchum said. Two hours later, another shooting at Norris Hall, the engineering science and mechanics building, resulted in multiple casualties, the university reported.
The first reported shooting occurred at West Ambler Johnston Hall, a four-story coed dormitory that houses 895 students. The dormitory, one of the largest residence halls on the 2,600-acre campus, is located near the drill field and stadium.
Amie Steele, editor-in-chief of the campus newspaper, said one of her reporters at the dormitory reported "mass chaos."
The reporter said there were "lots of students running around, going crazy, and the police officers were trying to settle everyone down and keep everything under control," according to Steele.
Kristyn Heiser said she was in class about 9:30 a.m. when she and her classmates saw about six gun-wielding police officers run by a window.
"We were like, 'What's going on?' Because this definitely is a quaint town where stuff doesn't really happen. It's pretty boring here," said Heiser during a phone interview as she sat on her classroom floor. What you think?

Jay-Z and Beyonce to Start New Label
“It’s a done deal. Jay-Z already has Beyonce and Matthew Knowles on board,” said the source. “She’ll be finishing up her contract [with Sony], and I expect that she’ll sign on to the new label shortly afterwards.”
Beyonce is scheduled to complete her final album under a deal with Sony this fall. The final of her three albums of the deal (B'Day and B'Day Deluxe) will be a live album.
It’s not clear which major label will house the new label but the insider says it’s not going to be Island Def Jam.
“Jay-Z brought the idea to Def Jam first but they thought he was asking for too much money,” said the source. “Now they’re shopping the deal around to the other majors and to Apple [the creator of iTunes] who is very interested in doing business.
The insider also says the prospect of Jay-Z and Beyonce starting their own label has the people over at Def Jam terrified however, this story is still developing. What you think?

As usual Dmx was a no show. In truth, I do not know where he is. Why would he be hiding out from a damn traffic infraction?" said Murray Richman, the rapper's lawyer. "He said he missed a flight," Richman said. "He's always missing flights."
According to Court Clerk Jennifer Ruggiero, the warrant means X "can be picked up anytime, and if he's brought here he can be jailed." Richman said that the judge agreed if DMX were to arrive within two weeks, he would "listen to his reasons" before allowing the rapper's $25,000 bond to be forfeited.
The second bench warrant is from City Court in Yonkers, NY, where Judge Charles Wood has issued one for another missed date.

He is now charged with possession.

Here is a album review I enjoyed.
Hip-hop needs a breath of fresh air, sure. What it doesn't need is an audaciously unoriginal rapper. As if it isn't deplorable enough that Mims allowed dirty-South-grooved production to overwhelm his natural East Coast flavor, the 26-year old Manhattan MC adopts Jay-Z's staccato flow throughout Music Is My savior.
Too bad, Mims' shoddy lyrics punctures his pompous pose on "This Is Why I'm Hot," making his chief influence look like Mark Twain. "With hip-hop, it's no longer a lyrical thing," Lil' Jigga concedes on "Where I Belong."
Mims' bout with identity crisis takes him to Harlem, where he makes a quick stop to pay homage to Cam'ron: "You say you a killer killer...you claimin' your flow is sick, well, mine is iller iller,"he rhymes on "You Don't Wanna Play." Let's just call it filler filler. "So live, this is why I'm hot," he later reiterates on the same track. You know you're having a bad day when your album is littered with ineffective references to your only smash.
The good news is that Mims is not entirely skilless, seamlessly shifting from pimp tales ("Big Black Train") to reflective narratives ("Don't Cry," "Doctor Doctor"). But in this melting pot of southern bounce, spurious rhymes, and stylistic mishaps, Music is My Savior fails to live up to hype.
Forget Music, Mims needs a new messiah. What You Think?
